On 6th Dec, US president Donald Trump announced that the US recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and will move its ambessy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
This movement heightens the tension in Middle East, fuels conflict and creates discord.
Jerusalem is the origin city for 3 religions, christaion, Muslim and Judaism. Its a city full of controversy. Now it is occupied by Israel but Palestine claims that it is its territory.
On 21 Dec,UN general assembly voted overwhelmingly to condemn the US decision in a rare emergency session of the global body.The 193-nation general assembly approved the resolution by a massive margin, with 128 nations in favour, and nine against. There were 35 abstentions.
The result means the power of US is getting weaker. The other nations dont obey it blindly and dont yield to its threat. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said “Mr. Trump, you cannot buy Turkey’s democratic will with your dollars. Our decision is clear,” said Erdogan, whose country is sponsoring Thursday’s motion at the U.N. “I call on the whole world: Don’t you dare sell your democratic struggle and your will for petty dollars.”
Apart from Middle East countries, the other countries no longer always obey and follow the US.
